Coming soon: long ramble about body image

I'm in a hurry. I am planning on writing a long piece about body image and weight issues. In the meantime, how do you feel about your size or weight? Are you comfortable with the way you look and feel, and if so, why? If not, why not? Have you ever noticed that this fluctuates with the way you feel in general or is it completely tied in to what size or weight you are? I'd love to hear your thoughts on these issues. I assure you, you'll hear a lot from me. Coming soon from this blog to you!

Generally unhappy though most of the time I can ignore it. My comment would go on and on so I'll just wait for the Coming Soon post. : )

I'm sorry to hear that. I feel the same way.

The Coming Soon post will be coming soon, I promise.

Hey Julie,

It's Jaime from Treetop. Really enjoying your blog!

How I feel about my body fluctuates from day to day. Right now, I'm the largest (roundest?) I've ever been, though not by much. I've always, since about age 8, been "heavy." With the exception of being picked on a lot, I never cared, really. I'm capable of feeling strong, healthy, and even - god forbid - sexy, much of the time (though, as a butch-identified lesbian, my projection of sexiness likely differs from many women's).

Much of the time, I can look in the mirror and like what I see. But, like anyone, I guess, I do have those days of feeling ugly and gross. Feelings of inadequacy are the human condition, I think. When it's not body image, it's just something else ... a moving target of what we supposedly need to be complete.

Be well,
jjm

Jaime, thanks for your comments!

I like what you wrote. And I believe you are quite right about the difference for butch identified lesbians. I used to get "On Our Backs" magazine, which would make me feel a whole lot better, seeing woman who looked like real women, and like me. Since losing a circle of lesbian friends I had, I've noticed, my body image assessment has lowered. How malleable it seems to be!

I'm glad you're enjoying reading this blog, but my first reaction was "Oh dear. Now she can see the true nature of my ongoing stupidity."

There's another moving target!
